As this has been an extremely high level promotion for the games release, in our opinion the game does do the franchise justice. Alma, the scary little girl in question is more creepy than threatening, and there are definitely moments where the game feels really eerie. But genuinely scary? No. F.E.A.R. 2 is not a survival horror game – not that the designers ever claimed it to be – it's a shooter with horror elements. But when the horror takes hold, there's not much more there than just your average first-person shooter.

As an FPS, F.E.A.R. 2 is decent. Above average, for sure. The weapons are varied and fun, ranging from the standard assault rifle and shotgun fare up to more exotic weapons like an energy cannon and a high-end nail gun. The wide array of grenade types is something I can get behind as a gamer too. Its other big claim to fame is its "bullet-time" mode ("heightened reflexes" in the nomenclature of the series) that has been a hallmark of the F.E.A.R. games. But lots of games do the slo-mo thing now, and lots of games have cool weapons. So what makes F.E.A.R. 2 special? Not a whole lot.   In conclusion, the price tag might seem a bit steep but it's worth it for any gamer interested in this cash cow!
